Mastering layering, anatomy and finishing of anterior composite restorations

abstract

The use of composites in the smile frame has evolved and gained maturity. However, ceramics remain the preferred aesthetic option for many clinicians because bonding techniques are still considered intricate, sensitive and, to a certain extent, unpredictable. These drawbacks, essentially related to the complexity of many composite systems, can be overcome today by the application of the ‘natural layering concept’, which makes use of only two basics masses, dentine and enamel, perfectly mimicking natural tooth structure. There are plentiful indications for the use of such a simplified but aesthetically uncompromised treatment modality. This program will cover all basic procedures needed to achieve optimal aesthetics, restorations with excellent macro- and micro anatomy and as well long-lasting results.

course objectives are:

1) to become familiar with the “Natural Layering Concept” leading to more predictable aesthetic results,

2) to master the application and anatomical layering of composite for IV cavities as well as many other aesthetic indications such as form/color corrections & direct composite veneers,

3) to master finishing and polishing techniques to achieve superior aesthetics

Hands-on detailed content (class IV with direct veneering technique):

• Mock-up and index technique

• The Natural Layering concept

• Shade selection

• Anatomical layering with two basic layers (dentin & enamel + effect shades): class IV restoration

• Direct veneering technique with internal effect shades

• Finishing techniques to restore optimal tooth macro-anatomy

• Advanced technique to create microanatomy

• Getting a perfect gloss
